FIAF 2011 ~ International Festival of Photographic Art, Cluj-Napoca
On May 27 started in Cluj the first International Festival of Photographic Art - FIAF 2011, organized by Camera Obscura, ErKE - Transylvanian Lightpainters’ Association, Photo Sharp and Association of Micro-region Tãºnad .
For one week, May 27-June 3 2011, Cluj became the capital of photography, this artistic event attracting enthusiasts from all parts of the country.
In the opening of the festival, over 70 photographers have participated with one photo each, at an unique exhibition, on Heroes Avenue, in an attempt to bring the photography closer to the delight of the people. For exhibitors, Photo Gear offered by lot, a Manfrotto camera tripod.
In the second day, the center of the festival was moved inside the Art Gallery of Central Shopping Center(3rd floor), where took place the third edition of the Photo Fair organized by ErKE Transylvanian Lightpainters’ Association. The fair displayed promotions from companies such as F64, Quantuum Romania, Nikon, Photo Gear, Digital Point and Gil Mobile. There were also individual exhibitors displaying for sale their used photo equipment. An exhibition of vintage cameras dating back from early XXth century caused a sensation by the rarity of the pieces and their diversity.
The Art Galery also hosted the exhibition organized by Quantuum for the 13 finalists in the “Portrait” contest and at 2 p.m. there took place the award festivity for the winners. The grand prize, consisting of a Quantuum Dual Power 300W flash, was won by Lorand Peli (Cluj).
Later, at 17 p.m., Voicu Bojan presented Brooks Jensen's book, 'On photography, with love.' Also on 28 May, the LightHouse Studio (Union Square No.4-5,) held Laura Balc’s personal photo exhibition, 'Unbearable Lightness'. The special guest of the event was Assoc. Dr. Stefan Dorel Gaina Gerendi who spoke about the artist’s work.
The main event of the third day of the festival was taking the picture with the most photographers. Over 80 photographers have answered the invitation and came in Union Square in Cluj. Photo Gear came again to meet the photographers’ needs, offering as a prize, a camera bag.
Towards evening, the Light House Studio was filled with over 20 photographers eager to learn from Pinto Horse the secrets of successful shooting in the studio. Model was Lolita and equipment was provided by Quantuum Romania.
Light House Studio has also hosted other events throughout the FIAF: daily, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., the studio opened its doors to those curious to see what happens in a photo studio. Spontaneously, we organized workshops on various topics (portrait, masks and bottle of beer) for the visitors. On June 2, Melinda Nagy gave a presentation at the Light House Studio about stock photography and the next day, on June 3, the studio hosted Oana Pop’s presentation, 'Contemporary Woman', which concluded the photographic events of the festival.
Throughout the festival there were more than 30 photo exhibitions in various locations in Cluj, photo workshops which were conducted outdoor and indoor, presentations on photographic topics, Open Days at studios, theater and interlaced parties.
We’d like to thank the sponsors, partners, volunteers who helped us throughout the festival and all those involved.
